Study of the needs of residents in new residential areas of Osh city
We are pleased to present the results of another research conducted within the “Araket: Improving Life in Kyrgyzstan’s New Residential Areas” project (2022-2025), in collaboration with our partner, the Advocacy Center for Human Rights in Osh city.
The aim of the research is to identify priority issues in the new residential areas of Alai 1, Alai 2, Edelweiss, and the Manas-Ata dormitory in Osh city. We aimed to identify the scale and specificity of these issues, as well as to determine the level of residents’ satisfaction with living conditions and the accessibility of state/municipal services in the areas of education, healthcare, environment, and other spheres.
The main results:
- The study involved 221 participants, including 198 respondents from residents of new residential areas and 23 representatives from municipal authorities.
- Residents in these areas typically have low income levels and, in the majority of cases, possess secondary education. Furthermore, many households have more than three children.
- Priority issues vary depending on the age group. For instance, young people aged 18-30 prioritize issues such as access to clean water, unemployment, and road infrastructure, whereas the older generation is more concerned about access to medical services.
The data collected will serve as the basis for developing and implementing specific measures aimed at addressing the identified issues.
