The baseline and final studies of the international project EGAP “Enhancing Women’s Collective Participation in Public Life”.
The project “Enhancing Women’s Collective Participation in Public Life” is being implemented in five countries worldwide: Kyrgyzstan, Nigeria, Vietnam, Malawi, and Pakistan. Within the project, our organization conducted baseline and final research. The unique feature of the study is the presence of an experimental component, as well as its academic orientation. The project partner, the Institute for Development Policy, conducted the educational component of the project and implemented a grant program. More details can be found on their website.
The aim of this study is to examine the conditions faced by women in improving local communities. In particular, we focus on the role of women’s social environment and education in shaping their decision to engage in local-level public and political life.
The study was conducted in two stages – the initial stage in February 2023 and the final stage in November 2023, covering 150 rural districts in the Issyk-Kul, Naryn, and Jalal-Abad regions. The key research groups encompassed members of rural health committees, women in communities, and representatives of local government bodies. In total, the two studies covered 9600 respondents.
The research findings will assist government authorities and development partners in planning and implementing gender projects. The research findings will be published in academic journals and presented at scientific conferences.
The project donor is EGAP, the global network for studying issues of governance and policy, with partners including Humboldt University in Berlin, the International Centre for Security and Development, Peking University, and the Institute for Development Policy.
As part of the study, in addition to the main report, an analytical article has been prepared, which you can read at the following link.
